An art gallery is a lot of work, and much of that work may not be readily apparent. So much of it is in the tiny details and behind the scenes. Obviously, the artwork must be installed, but that’s just the physical part of the job and even that has more to it than most would realize. Client interactions and relationships, artist communications and coordination, inventory management and record-keeping, sales management and interfacing with accounting, contact management, gallery labels and signage, cleaning and maintenance of the space and exhibits, marketing and publicity, graphic design, social media, scouting new artists, curating the exhibition program…the list could go on. It requires manual labor, creative vision, relationship development, organization and attention to detail, and a tremendous amount of flexibility. And I love it.
But this post is not about how much work this business is or how many different skills it takes. It’s about how grateful I am for Coley Wohlgemut and her help with so much of the work that goes into this gallery. Coley started working at 716 High Street in 2015 with Intermezzo. When Jeannette MacDougall and I decided to open Studio Comfort Texas in January 2019, Coley stayed on. We joke that “Coley came with the building,” but there’s truth in that jest! When I was soul-searching and reinventing the gallery, Coley listened and brainstormed with me, helped research new software and inventory management systems, new website platforms, was instrumental in helping implement all of it, and generally supported me in birthing MixHaus Gallery. She’s helped me craft the life and business of my dreams.

"See You Around" SENd-OFF GATHERING
Friday 10/31/25 | 3:30-5:00pm
To acknowledge Coley’s massive contributions to MixHaus and to me personally, I’m inviting those who have had the pleasure to know and work with Coley over these last few years to stop by MixHaus Gallery 3:30-5:00pm this Friday 10/31 for a come-and-go gathering.
We’re calling it a “See You Around Send-Off.” It will be a brief and casual gathering with a few light bites. Coley isn’t a fan of being the center of attention, but I insisted! I hope you’ll join me in thanking Coley for her contributions to MixHaus Gallery, show her appreciation for being a lovely human, and tell her “See you around!”
